Facebook hits 30 million active members
July 13th, 2007 under Business, Ramblings. [ Comments: none ]

Facebook hit the milestone with 30 million active members on their site. That is very impressive because that’s like every person living in Canada having a facebook account. A while back, Facebook reportly refused $1 billion dollar deal to sell the site to Yahoo, but now I ‘ve read somewhere they are asking in the $2 billion range.

With all the Facebook hype, I’ve decided to create an account for the heck of it. Would you like to be my friend?

Who knew in our lifetime that someone would surpass Bill Gates to become the richest man in the world. Carlo Slim recently became the richest man in the world with a networth over $67.8 Billion.

Carlo Slim, is the world's richest man

The Mexican tycoon, who owns America Movil, Latin America’s largest cell phone operator owned by Slim, had the company’s share price rose 27 percent in the last few months.

Mexico is divided into two divisions. You have the rich making millions of dollars and then you have the poor who are barely making $5/day.

How I made $1000 in Five Days
June 28th, 2007 under Business, Inspiration. [ Comments: none ]

What is the secret ingredient to make $1000 in five days? Well, there is no secret! One of the main ingredients in making $1000 in less than a week was “TRAFFIC”. How did I managed to get huge amount of traffic to my site in five days? Well there were the local newspapers, local news media (CHBC), then nationwide news media (Global and CNN) and to top it off, making front page of Digg.

With the amount of traffic that came to the site, onedollarplaystation3.com, most people would have thought all the ad revenue was earned through Google Adsense. Well they were wrong! If I was to count my eggs in one basket, I would have only earned $212.62 through Adsense in those 5 days. Instead, I diversified my earnings by adding another ad on the site. The other ad was an affiliate link through eBay.  When someone clicked on the affiliate link, and bought something off eBay, I received up to 75% of eBay’s commission.  Through the five days, eBay have brought me in over $700 in commissions. Other than the PS3 site, all my other sites are bringing more money in affiliate commissions than Google Adsense alone. If your site is only making revenue from Google Adsense, then you should add other ads to maximize your site earnings. If you would like to be an eBay affiliates, you can sign up at CJ.

My Adsense Earnings

Building Onedollarplaystation.com site was a great learning process for me. I like sharing my experience with it and use it as a learning example for others.

Looking back on the site, there were things I should have done:

  1. I should have set up the site as a blog. This was probably the biggest mistake I’ve made. Setting it up as a blog would have allowed me to update the content daily and therefore keeping visitors coming back for more. If I would have set up the site this way, the site’s earnings would have doubled and still be active today. I could have held more PS3 contest and kept bringing in new visitors daily.
  2. Adding a text link ad. By adding a text link ad such as Kontera and Text-link-ads, it would added a few more hundred dollars to the profit.
  3. I should have started earlier. The would built and launched it two days. I should have going to the press beginning of December instead mid-December.

Raising $1000 from Onedollarplaystation3.com for Charity was an awesome learning experience for me. By taking what I learnt from the experience and apply it to my own projects, I am now on my way to meet my goals.

Who Wants to be the next internet millionaire?
June 26th, 2007 under Business, Ramblings, Inspiration. [ Comments: none ]

Can we make millions just from working on the internet? A lot of people in this world don’t think so.

Joel Comm, one of the world’s foremost experts on the subject of making money on the internet, and his crew of successful internet gurus are part of an interesting internet reality show, “Who Wants To An Internet Millionaire“.  The idea of the show is to take twelve contestants and make them learn everything they need to know from the world’s top internet gurus to become Internet Millionaires . Contestants will be competing for $25,000 in cash and the opportunity to participate in a joint venture with Joel Comm. Wow this has to be a win-win situation. If you lose, you come home with the knowledge and if you win, you get to be partners with Joel Comm in an ultimate venture.

I wish I found out about the reality show earlier because I would love to be taught and trained to make money on the internet by today’s top internet gurus.

The show will be exciting to watch and I’ll be looking forward to catch the premier.

Get Drunk, Go to Jail and Get Paid One Million Dollars!
June 25th, 2007 under Business. [ Comments: none ]

How would you like to get wasted, go to jail and then get paid one million dollars when you get out? Well that’s what our favorite (sarcasm) celebrity Paris Hilton is receiving when she gets out of jail sometime next week. NBC has struck a deal to be the first media to interview her after her release and plans to air it on the “Today” Show.

NBC Universal boss, Jeff Zucker had to make a personal call to Paris Hilton’s dad, Rick, to secure the interview. Paris has agreed with the interview but have asked to be interviewed by Meredith Vieira.

I thought sending Paris Hilton to jail was supposed to teach her a lesson, but rewarding her with one millions dollars is going to make her think twice about drinking and driving. I beg to differ….

From the Swimming Pool to the Front Cover of PlayBoy
June 20th, 2007 under Business. [ Comments: 2 ]

Amanda Beard, 7 time Olympic Medalist Swimmer, decided to bare all on the Cover of PlayBoy. This is one of her first steps to brand her name before her last (possibly) Olympic next year in Beijing 2008. Posing for PlayBoy may hurt her name in the swimming pool (created a huge controversy), but as  an entrepreneur’s point of view, she maybe made the right move. Right now she is trying to license her name and image herself to variety of products while she still have the fame. And from the publicity she is receiving from the July Playboy’s issue, she might be on the right track.

Amanda Beard on Front of Playboy

So when we see  her compete in Beijing Olympics 2008, we will not see her as naked beautiful woman on the front cover of Playboy, we will see her as entrepreneur trying to build her own empire from her dying fame and hot body that she has(and we all know sex does sell). Can she really do it? I think it will all depends how she does next year in Beijing. If she is going to choke,  she can say goodbye to the empire she’s trying to build.

Lebron wants to be the First Billionaire Athlete
June 17th, 2007 under Business. [ Comments: 2 ]

After receiving a $90 million dollar contract from Nike before hitting the NBA at the age of 18, Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers thought that was pocket change and now his goal is to become the first billionaire athlete.

I guess you can never be too greedy. I think most of us would be happy with a $90 million contract and then retire and live off from the interest.

Lebron james wants to be a billionaire

James traveled to Omaha last September to see Buffett (second richest man in the world next to Bill Gates). What they discussed at their lunch meeting no one is saying, but I believe he is seeking financial advice from Buffett.

Lebron who is a year younger than me (22), made many low profile investments and business start-ups.

Can Lebron James become the first Billionaire Athlete? I believe that if it is Lebron’s goal to become a billionaire, I think he will achieve it. Since his $90 million endorsement from Nike, he’s also endorsed for companies such as Coca Cola, Powerade, Sprite and Microsoft’s Vista. All these endorsements did not add up to a billion dollar, but I think if he decides to get his own Lebron-branded shoes and apparel, get more endorsements and make the right investments, his goal of becoming the first billionaire athlete would be achieved.
