Markus Frind, the owner of PlentyofFish.com, runs his free online dating site, from the comfort of his own apartment in Vancouver, BC. You would not believe that a site with over 14 million page views/day is operated by a single man (with a little help from the wife). The site makes between $5 millon to $10 million in advertising per year. Late last year, Markus made it on the news with Global Canada.
Markus Frind recently quoted in his blog how the media has caught on the free online dating site and changing what online dating means. “I tried to arrange something in secret with only a few hours notice. It completely blew up with lots of news papers showing up, The today show, local TV stations and CNN called and said they would be there (There was so much media there by the end of the night no one has a clue who was all there) and New york times has been calling people this morning.”
PlentyofFish.com, which once produced $40/month income, was also featured in the MSNBC article. In the aritcle, Frind stated that all paid dating sites will soon go away and free online dating sites will take over.
When we all visit PlentyofFish.com, the first thing that comes to our mind is how ugly the design is. But does the ugly design really matter when the site is ranked the top 100 sites in the US (based on visitors) and raking in millions of dollars each year? I don’t think so……
"OUCHS" is my family's last name. It does not have a meaning to it. To me each letter in the word "OUCHS" stands for "O"nly "U" "C"an "H"it "S"uccess. The only person stopping you to reach your success is yourself.
